The History of Muncy Creek Baptist Church
In 1953 and 1954 the building was like a barn. The exterior was rough lumber, with a metal roof sitting on poles.
The inside of the building was rough pine flooring and walls of sheet rock. The seats were slabs of wood. The heating consisted of a coal stove in the center of the building sitting on concrete blocks. The church was first organized on February 24, 1954.
In 1955 and 1956 work was begun to improve the building. A new ceiling was installed and pine paneling was used for the walls. New flooring and siding were also installed at this time. Also, at this time a full basement was installed for Sunday School classes as well as a gas heating system. The rough slab seats were also replaced with straight back chairs that Roscoe Elam got for us in Tennessee for $2.00 each. Pews and church furniture were bought. In 1978 carpet, as well as a kitchen and restrooms, were installed.
We continued to make improvements on the building until we begun construction of a new building in 1994. December 4, 1994 was a great day for the Muncy Creek Baptist Congregation when our new building was dedicated.
